Sheffield United produced a fitting tribute to former player George Baldock on their first home game since his passing at the end of October.
The right-back was with the Blades from 2017 to 2024, making 219 appearances across all competitions, and was influential in the club’s promotions to the Premier League in 2018/19 and 2022/23.
The England-born Greece international died aged 31 at his home in southern Athens last month, and Ignition Sports Media helped craft a poignant edition of ‘Up The Blades’ worthy of the former defender’s legacy.
A massively popular figure at Bramall Lane, it was little surprise that the official matchday programme for the visit of Stoke City on 26th October had a phenomenal uptake as supporters looked to pay their respects to a former hero.
Programme Editor Matthew Young reflected: “Following the devastating news regarding the passing of George Baldock, it was important the club appropriately honoured one of its modern-day greats.
“The matchday programme was amongst the many tributes which were paid at the home game against Stoke City, with Ignition’s Senior Designer Alex Guildford producing an incredibly poignant cover which drew huge praise from those who attended the fixture.
“The tone of the design on the cover, and immediate inside pages, was perfect, and fans seemed to agree with all editions sold out 30 minutes before the game started, and a subsequent reprint proving very popular. Ignition have produced a fitting edition for a much-loved player and person.”
Supporters can still obtain this commemorative edition at the Bramall Lane club shop, from a select number of vendors on Sunday against Sheffield Wednesday and online HERE
