Birmingham City will make a first Wembley appearance for 14 years this April as they face defending champions Peterborough United in the Vertu Trophy Final.

League One’s runaway leaders Blues, twice winners of the competition in the Nineties, earned their place in the showpiece finale after a 2-1 semi-final success against League Two Bradford City.

Victory handed the West Midlands side a first return to the capital since their 2011 League Cup triumph over Arsenal, and boss Chris Davies will be determined to end the club’s long wait for silverware with victory in his maiden campaign at St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park.

Standing in their way are reigning champions Peterborough who know all too well the feeling of jubilation under the Arch. Victory over Wycombe Wanderers 12 months ago saw Posh get their hands on the silverware for a second time, a decade on from their first trophy lift.

Darren Ferguson’s outfit scored twice late on in their last-four encounter with Wrexham to take the tie to penalties in Wales, before winning the shoot-out 4-2 to book a return down Wembley Way as they aim to become the first side ever to retain the EFL Trophy.
