Championship promotion rivals Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers can use the FA Cup as a welcome distraction this January as they meet in the Third Round.

It is a first encounter in the competition between the two sides since February 2002, when Ugo Ehiogu’s goal for Boro proved the difference.

Rovers have a stellar record at Riverside Stadium in recent seasons, having not lost on Teesside in their previous ten visits and were victorious in November’s Championship meeting.

John Eustace’s Lancashire side were FA Cup quarter-finalists in 2022/23 and will want to go deeper into the competition once again, against Michael Carrick’s men who have only reached the Fourth Round once in the last five seasons.
