Wigan opened the gates for their biggest home crowd in a decade earlier this month and Ignition Sports Media made sure they had a programme fit for the occasion.
The League One Latics hosted last season’s FA Cup Finalists Manchester United on Monday 8th January in the competition’s Third Round, in what was a first meeting between the two Lancashire sides at DW Stadium since 2013.
With a sell-out 22,870 crowd in attendance, the tie broadcast live across ITV and national media packing out the press box, the 52-page A5 perfect-bound commemorative edition proved the Latics were not just punching above their weight on the field, but off it as well.
The slick one-off publication was packed full of exclusive content and informative features, including winger Callum McManaman’s memories of their shock FA Cup win in 2013, Roberto Martinez’s Wembley recollections and a career in pictures with Wigan boss Shaun Maloney – incidentally the goal scorer on the only occasion Wigan have ever beaten United.
Although the cup shock never materialised on the evening Wigan Athletic’s Media Executive, Jay Whittle, was delighted with the end result, saying: “It was an exceptionally busy week in having such a high-profile FA Cup tie against one of the world’s highest-profile teams, and all that that entails, but the cup edition was one to be proud of.”
Supporters still looking to get their hands on this cup edition, which costs £3, can do so via the club’s official store or from the Wigan Athletic sub-section HERE
