Grimsby Town celebrated their first home game back in the Football League with a complimentary copy of their matchday programme to all home supporters.
Fans coming through the turnstiles at Blundell Park for the fixture against Northampton Town were entitled to a free copy of the club’s award-winning ‘The Mariner’ publication, which is produced alongside Ignition Sports Media.
With a bumper print run of 6,000 copies given away to every one of the club’s 2022/23 season ticket holders, the initiative proved a valuable PR exercise in helping Town to promote its publication to a wider readership.
The 64-page B5 size edition, which normally retails at just £3 and is part of season ticket packages, is full of exclusive columns from manager Paul Hurst, chief executive Debbie Cook and chairman Jason Stockwood, as well as in-depth player pieces, opposition analysis and a giant pull-out poster.
On a statement via gtfc.co.uk the club said: “Grimsby Town Football Club has produced a matchday programme for over 100 years and we are committed to making sure supporters have a printed programme to enjoy for years to come.
“Over the years the publication has been recognised as one of the best in English football and it is something we can be very proud of. To many, it’s an intrinsic part of the matchday experience.”
